Ferrero Announces $86 Million Investment in Guanajuato

Italian company Ferrero announced an $86 million investment to expand the production capacity of its plant located in San José Iturbide, Guanajuato. The project will strengthen its manufacturing operations in Mexico and increase exports to North America and Central America. The investment also includes infrastructure to ensure the energy supply required for the facility’s expansion.

Ferrero Strengthens Its Manufacturing Capacity in Mexico

The expansion is part of Ferrero’s growth strategy in Mexico, where the San José Iturbide plant has become one of the group’s main production centers in the region. The facility produces 35,295 metric tons annually of products such as Kinder Surprise, Kinder Chocolate, Kinder Delice, and Nutella, which are distributed throughout Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Central America.

During the announcement, Paolo Cornero, President and CEO of Ferrero Mexico and Central America, said the investment represents a new chapter for the company in the country and reflects its confidence in its Mexican operations.

“This investment announcement is a milestone in the company’s history and represents our gratitude to Mexico. Guanajuato has welcomed us with open arms, and together with its people, we have built a family,” he said.

Founded in 1946 in Piedmont, Italy, Ferrero has become one of the world’s leading companies in the chocolate and confectionery industry, with a presence in more than 170 countries. The company maintains a strategy focused on innovation, product quality, and the expansion of its production capacity to meet international demand.

Investment Reinforces Italy’s Presence in Guanajuato

The announcement also reflects Guanajuato’s importance as a destination for Italian manufacturing investment. According to information presented during the event, Italy remains the state’s fifth-largest investment partner, with 32 projects developed since 2006, accumulated investment exceeding $2.155 billion, and the creation of more than 7,800 direct jobs.

In addition to its industrial growth, Ferrero maintains social responsibility programs such as Joy of Moving, an initiative focused on promoting physical activity and the overall development of children. Through the expansion of its San José Iturbide plant, the company is strengthening its manufacturing presence in Mexico and consolidating the country as a strategic platform for food production and exports to markets throughout the region.
