GP Desarrollos Completes Major Whirlpool Facility Expansion in Mexico

GP Desarrollos successfully completed the expansion of Whirlpool’s manufacturing plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, strengthening its reputation as one of Mexico’s leading firms in industrial construction. 

The project, executed between April 2023 and September 2024, encompassed a 22,000 m² production facility and 3,000 m² of auxiliary buildings, designed to support the manufacturing of refrigerators while integrating office, dining, and high-performance operational areas.

Engineering Challenges and Tailored Solutions

One of the most significant challenges of the project was the development of a new Ring Road to ensure the continuous operation of the existing plant. 

To achieve this milestone without disrupting Whirlpool’s production, GP Desarrollos implemented an intensive construction strategy, working 18-hour days across two shifts for earthworks and infrastructure preparation. 

Once the new roadway was operational, construction of the main facility began, ensuring seamless logistics for trailer circulation and plant access.

Comprehensive Project Scope

The scope of work included earthworks and foundations, concrete flooring, a metallic structure with TPO roofing, a fire protection system, low- and medium-voltage electrical installations, HVAC, hydraulic and sanitary systems, specialized facilities, and the construction of office and dining areas. 

This integrated approach reflects GP Desarrollos’ expertise in delivering turnkey industrial solutions.

Commitment to Sustainability and Social Impact

Aligned with its Oficina Verde program, the project received official recognition from the State’s Environmental Culture Directorate, underscoring GP Desarrollos’ commitment to sustainable practices. 

In addition, through a partnership with the nonprofit organization Construyendo y Creciendo, mobile classrooms were installed onsite to provide educational opportunities for construction workers, fostering personal and professional development.
