ZF will manufacture components for hybrid and electric cars in Coahuila

In order to have more environmentally friendly processes, ZF Powertrain  will manufacture components for hybrid and electric vehicles  at its Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila plant .

Alfonso Reyes Arjona, plant manager, said that one of the objectives of this project is to educate his collaborators and students who will become the workforce of the future in terms of electromobility. 

He commented that the German company will seek to position its hybrid transmissions for different brands, since they currently produce Torton converters and will merge it with an electric motor for plug-in vehicles . 

In addition, he pointed out that these products have the peculiarity of adapting to different models, since they can work in ultra-compact vehicles, sedans, trucks, tractor-trailers, etc.

Its main clients include General Motors , also located in the Southeast Region of Coahuila; however, the manager stressed that globally they serve the most recognized automakers, such as BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen, Ford, Stellantis , among others. 

“Thanks to the added value that we provide to our clients, we have very broad portfolios of prospects. Today we are promoting an electromobility project, but we are also manufacturing shock absorbers, autonomous driving systems, among others”, he added. 

 

COAHUILA, WITH AN ADVANTAGE OVER OTHER PLACES

Reyes Arjona assured that the state is one of the most competitive in the country, because it stands out as one of the safest places nationwide and has a qualified workforce, especially in the aspect of specialized engineers for various processes. with which they count. 

Likewise, he said that they currently produce 1.2 million converters for heavy vehicles, but by starting with the manufacture of hybrid converters they will be manufacturing an additional 450,000 units per year. 

"We are in the part of developing new projects, in which we will manufacture 100% electric motors, for vehicles of the same type."

He advanced that the vision in the medium term is that by 2025 they can start with this plan and that by 2030 70% of their product portfolio will be for hybrid and electric vehicles. 

Finally, he commented that they currently have 600 employees , so they will double the workforce with this expansion in their operations.

"We are very strong in the sense of promoting local workers and also suppliers, for this reason, 90% of our raw material is of local origin and the remaining 10% comes from other countries that are outside the Treaty between Mexico, United States and Canada," he concluded.
