“They are looking for a place to settle and for this reason it is necessary to have a good catalog of options in various parts of the country and in this way the alliance would work to offer a complete offer that goes from industrial spaces, supplies, machinery, to hand of competitive work”, he commented.

He said that there are companies from the United States and Canada that are looking for spaces to settle, since he said that, since the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada , possibilities were opened for local suppliers and that is where they could also cover some requirements of the companies that would be set up.

He commented that, from Invest Sonora , they are working to increase membership, with a goal of more than 100 companies this year; To do this, they have carried out mapping throughout the area to detect the main business groups and are validating the strategy that they may follow in this regard.

“We are looking for companies that have this interest in joining through associations or, by direct integration. We are working on validating the companies with whom we have already had some sessions and being able to integrate them into this ecosystem”, he mentioned.

He announced that they are meeting with all kinds of companies that could offer both products and services and exemplified the case of a group of software companies that have high-tech programs applicable  to agriculture and mining and construction projects, which is why it is which reiterated that the mapping is carried out in a general way in all the productive sectors of the entity.

"The way in which this directory will work is through an ecosystem conducive to economic development, it is part of the strategy and depends on the businessmen who are integrated," he explained.

He referred that in the case of the Ford assembly plant, installed in Hermosillo, Sonora, it supports more than 90 companies that have some relationship with its processes or services; however, there are other sectors such as aerospace, electronics and biomedical where its supply is shared with other sectors such as the automotive industry.

Sonora diversifies

Sonora is an expert in mining, since 90% of the supply of this industry and everything related to it are found in Hermosillo; however, there is great interest in other sectors such as aerospace and electronics , which is why some companies are already working on their diversification.

Arturo Fernández stated that they are also working on linking companies that want to bet on other sectors, especially those local companies that are already specialized in some process, product or service.

“Companies that come to an entity are not only looking for an industrial space as such, but also those who help them in the processes corresponding to their installation, that is where accounting offices, customs offices and engineering offices could be added. The industry needs support to be able to operate here and we have companies in Sonora that have this capacity”, he added.

Human capital development

Through the universities, the human talent that is required as part of the investment attraction processes is constantly being generated and trained, for this reason, Arturo Fernández announced that one of the most important projects is to have a qualified workforce. that responds to the specialized processes with which the current industry operates.

He said that projects such as the Dual Training Program have also been successful in Sonora, because by linking up with the Ministry of Education and business organizations such as Coparmex , the study plans are adapted to the type of preparation required by the industry.

“In border cities like Tijuana, Ciudad Juárez, Nogales, among others, this program is guaranteed, since it has already been tested in the field with its graduates for several years, and in Sonora we have not been left behind with cities like Hermosillo and Ciudad Obregón, there is still availability of qualified labor”, he commented.

Sonora, as the second largest state in the country, promotes investment from a decentralized project that seeks alliance with other regions of Mexico, such as the Bajío region, and thereby respond to the large investments that are yet to come, so Arturo Fernández, president of Invest Sonora EDC , reiterated that economic development is a project that has to be detonated from the private sector.

Invest Sonora EDC is a project backed by a business perspective, which allows building trust among the actors involved, to give continuity to investment projects and seek the conditions for them to occur in a timely manner.
