The relocation of companies , a phenomenon known as nearshoring , is a unique opportunity in Mexico for the logistics sector, as there are various competitive advantages due to its proximity to the United States, international treaties, industrial supply and specialized professionals.

In the current scenario, our country shows a large amount of infrastructure available for the placement of new investments, but there are also areas of opportunity that must be addressed to guarantee that businesses will remain in local territory.

Mauricio Alberto Barrientos Rodríguez, managing partner of AJR Logistics Solutions , provided these panoramas and said that it is about optimizing supply chains, with technology and fewer manual processes, as well as resorting to intermodal transportation methods.

The opportunities in this 2023 also include small and medium-sized companies that offer some supply service, from storage, transportation, packaging or packaging.

"The logistics sector in Mexico is at a key moment regarding nearshoring , our proximity to the United States and international treaties make us an ideal area for business, we see many areas of opportunity, of growth, which if we take advantage of them will give more potential to the country".

The new education plans that universities implement to train professionals in logistics are key to guaranteeing investments, especially, Barrientos Rodríguez explained, when it is strengthened by learning languages. "We must attend to every aspect and need of companies, it is definitely important that human capital acquire new specialties in sectors with greater economic development."

intermodal transport

The use of an intermodal transport system is a priority aspect to deal with nearshoring from the logistics sector, since the advantages of resorting to various means include more precise times, which represents agile routes, which allow more trips to be made in less time. possible.

Even when it comes to international routes to Canada and the United States.

“The next step for logistics companies in Mexico is the use of intermodal transport; It has been shown that it is an efficient method, with very precise shipments with exact times, unlike the traditional method that is still handled with estimates”.

The country has various economic corridors in the north, center and south of the state that facilitate the shipment of goods abroad, which are complemented by airports, railway lines and upcoming railway projects.

“One of the successes of the country is that there are already established corridors that international companies use every day, from Querétaro, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, to Nuevo León, Coahuila and Tamaulipas, in addition there are new projects such as the railway line that will connect us with Canada."

Optimize logistics processes

In search of attracting the largest amount of investment and staying in international competition, logistics companies that are already established in Mexico must adapt their processes to technology.

Although the idea of modernizing is usually synonymous with high costs, it should not be a limitation for companies, nor a starting point, Mauricio added, indicating that the reduction of errors is one of the advantages in automatic processes, as well planning shipments, deliveries and tracking them throughout the supply chain.
