Reynosa, Tamaulipas, positioned itself as a nearshoring hub, attracting approximately $200 million in investments throughout 2023, according to Raúl Setién, President of the Maquiladora and Export Industry Association (Index) in the city. This economic growth extends to global impacts, with new projects focusing on the industrial sector, including warehousing, distribution, and manufacturing.

Setién emphasized that foreign investment in Reynosa is organic, attributed to the city's competitive advantages such as proximity to the United States, a robust logistics network with international trade-focused bridges, a skilled manufacturing workforce, and an educational sector aligning with industry needs for developing new professionals.

New Investments on the Horizon for 2024

Looking ahead to 2024, the outlook remains positive with the consolidation of two new distribution centers for Amazon and the establishment of Time Interconnect Technology Limited's manufacturing center, with a $40 million investment. Setién highlighted that despite the concentration of nearshoring projects in other Mexican states, Reynosa has successfully attracted and is set to welcome new investments, kicking off the year with high growth expectations.

Regarding employment, Setién explained that the influx of these companies, along with others in the pipeline, could result in the creation of 4,250 new jobs.
