Naturgy México has announced a 276 million pesos investment to build a new natural gas City Gate in the northern region of Aguascalientes. This project will strengthen the state's energy infrastructure and expand its industrial and commercial coverage.

The announcement was made during an economic promotion tour in Spain, led by the authorities of Aguascalientes, including Governor Tere Jiménez and Esaú Garza, Secretary of Economic Development. Key Naturgy executives were present at the meeting, including Pedro Larrea Paguaga, General Director of Networks at Naturgy Group; Jordi Garcia Tabernero, General Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability; and Francisco Ripoll Alcalde, Chief Operating Officer of Naturgy Mexico.

The new City Gate facility will address the region's growing energy demand, providing natural gas access to over 900 new industrial and commercial users. The project aims to deliver a reliable and competitive energy supply for key sectors such as automotive, advanced manufacturing, and semiconductors—pillars of Aguascalientes' local economic growth.

In addition to this critical infrastructure, Naturgy is also planning to expand and maintain its distribution network, positioning Aguascalientes ahead of other regions that still lack energy infrastructure of this scale.

This investment is a response to the state’s dynamic economic development, marked by the arrival of new industrial parks, expansion of manufacturing plants, and sustained flows of foreign investment. In this context, access to efficient energy has become essential for regional competitiveness.

The agreement with Naturgy is a direct result of the state government's internationalization strategy. According to local authorities, the visit to Spain facilitated the establishment of concrete partnerships with global companies such as Naturgy, aligning with Aguascalientes’ long-term energy and economic development plans.

Business Ties Between Aguascalientes and Spain Open New Growth Opportunities

As part of the same economic tour, a meeting was held with Narciso Casado Martín, Director General of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and Permanent Secretary of the Ibero-American Business Council (CEIB), which represents over two million Spanish companies. Discussions focused on specific areas of collaboration between Spanish and Aguascalientes-based companies, aiming to boost bilateral economic development.

One of the key proposals was the implementation of a business employability forum, inspired by the successful job training and workforce linkage model developed in Aguascalientes. The dialogue helped identify strategic synergies in attracting specialized talent and promoting investment, thereby strengthening ties between Spain and Mexico.

The delegation also met with Mireia Arroyo de la Parte, Communications Director of Gestamp, a global leader in automotive components. Gestamp reaffirmed its interest in expanding its footprint in Aguascalientes, where it already operates a plant supplying Nissan, Volkswagen, and Audi. Both parties highlighted the importance of specialized training and favorable conditions to support technological innovation and sustainable mobility in the automotive sector.
