Mexico has secured its position among the top producers of
auto parts for the United States, surpassing countries like Japan, China, and
South Korea, as reported by the National Auto Parts Industry (INA). Influential
factors such as the entrance of Chinese automakers into the country, the USMCA
(T-MEC), and the trend of nearshoring have propelled Mexico from its previous
fourth position in this sector until 2021.
"Mexico has virtually matched the level it recorded at
the end of last year," stated the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) in a
recent report.
Closing in 2023
Data from the close of the third quarter in 2023 reveals
that Mexico delivered nearly 43% of the auto parts acquired in the United
States, marking a 4.8 percentage point increase from the previous year.
Following Mexico, the next major supplier by volume is Canada, contributing
10.7% of the total, representing a quarter of the shipments made by Mexico to
the United States.
Subsequently, in the ranking, China stands at 7.7%, Japan
at 7.0%, South Korea at 6.1%, and Germany at 5.9%.
Record Figures
According to INA data, by the close of 2022, Mexico
accounted for 39.28% of this supply chain, and currently, it has surpassed 43%,
demonstrating significant progress. It's worth noting that by the end of 2021,
Mexico ascended to the fourth position as a producer of auto parts, surpassing
Germany. Since then, the Mexican auto parts industry has shown record figures,
while Japan has experienced a decline in its automotive activity.
According to INA statistics, the projected production of
auto parts in Mexico for the close of 2023 is $121.716 billion, reflecting a
17% growth compared to the previous year.
