The American assembly company General Motors (GM) announced that in the last four years they have created 5,000 jobs in Mexico for their plants in San Luis Potosí and Ramos Arizpe, promoting gender inclusion in their workforce.
When holding a meeting with Raquel Buenrostro, head of the Ministry of Economy of the Mexican government, Francisco Garza, president of GM Mexico , reported that in 2024 his industrial complex in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, will produce only electric vehicles.
In 2022, Garza said that Mexico will consolidate as a relevant player in the manufacture of global General Motors electric vehicles, since it will also produce the Chevrolet Equinox EV (electric) SUV at the Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila manufacturing plant, and will be exported to North America and Europe as part of its electrification plan that will start in 2023.
The new investment will allow the generation of 1,500 formal jobs in the next five months to start formal production operations and will strengthen the Mexican supply chain.
The announcement was made a few days after the automaker – nicknamed the Detroit Giant – reported that the electric Chevrolet Blazer will be manufactured in the same factory in Coahuila, where the two units with combustion engines are currently assembled.
