Constellation Brands starts its second expansion stage on its plant in Nava

The brewing company expects growing its production from 25 million hectoliters generated last year to 27

Constellation Brands, American brewing company that controls the Corona and Grupo Modelo brands in North America, will start the expansion stage of their plant located in northern Coahuila, with the arrival of eight new storage tanks.

In an effort to satisfy the American market, Constellation Brands requires that the plant located in the municipality of Nava, north the State, to increase its production of 25 million hectoliters generated last year to 27.

With the first stage of the expansion, the brewing company increased 8.1 % in production volume, what registered an increase of 12.8 % in sales, equivalent to 1,378.9 million dollars, according to Cesar Isidro Munoz de Hoyos, public relations manager at the plant.

The arrival of the eight storage tanks, which are called Silos de Gift; represent and immediate increase of production, as they measure 32 meters wide and seven height, and have a capability of containing 45 tons of liquid.

The mega containers arrived to the Altamira port in Tamaulipas, seaway from China and were transferred through land to the property Rio Escondido in Nava, to startup the second expansion stage, which has as an objective to reach a production of 30 million hectoliters in five years at its plant in Nava.

The growing plans of Constellation Brands does not only involve Coahuila, since for 2019, the group is planning to invest 900 million dollars in the expansion of the plants in Obregon (Sonora,) as well as in the continuation  of the construction of the one in Mexicali (Baja California) and of a fifth glass furnace.

David Klein, CEO of the group, revealed that between 2020 and 2023 they will disburse from 1.100 to 1.300 million additional dollars to expand their manufacturing capability in Mexico even more, including Coahuila as the most important bastion in the execution of their plans.

With that, in 2024 the firm will have a capability to manufacture about 44 million hectoliters, almost 40 % more above its current level.

Exporter Leader

The growing beer root such as Corona Extra, Modelo Especial, Victoria or Pacifico in the United States has allowed Mexico to consolidate its status of leading beer supplier in the American country.

According to data from the Beer Institute, from the Azteca territory in 2017 more than 2,700 million liters of the beverage were sent, equivalent to more than two thirds of what is imported by the Northern neighbor.
