Bajaj Auto announced a US$145 million investment to establish a new motorcycle assembly plant in Toluca, a project designed to reach production capacity of up to 500,000 units annually.

The announcement was made by Delfina Gómez, Governor of the State of Mexico, who said the investment will be carried out through the company’s local subsidiary, Bajaj Motodrive México. The project is expected to generate 2,500 direct jobs and around 6,000 indirect positions.

Bajaj expands its industrial footprint in Latin America

The new facility will be located in the Toluca Valley and forms part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the Mexican and Latin American markets. According to Bajaj, the plant will incorporate assembly processes and industrial technology aimed at strengthening regional production capacity.

The project will be developed within the state’s Central Corridor, one of its main industrial regions, which includes 17 municipalities and offers logistics infrastructure such as Toluca International Airport, customs operations, and transportation platforms for industrial and commercial activity.

State of Mexico strengthens its motorcycle industry

Olaf Saravia, General Director of Bajaj Motodrive, said the plant will integrate manufacturing technology to reinforce the company’s position in the Mexican market while helping consolidate the State of Mexico as a strategic hub for the motorcycle industry in Latin America.

For her part, Laura González, the state’s Secretary of Economic Development, noted that the investment represents one of the largest projects from India to Mexico in recent years, reflecting the growing interest of Asian companies in expanding operations in the country.

According to state authorities, the State of Mexico is home to more than 1,430 establishments dedicated to motorcycle commercialization, representing nearly 13% of the national total, in addition to several assembly plants already operating in the state.
