Automotive Boom in Mexico: Production Soars in 2024

The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) has released June data from the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL), highlighting a notable increase in car production in Mexico.
In June 2024, 344,206 units were produced, representing a 3.77% increase compared to the same month last year. Additionally, in the first half of the year, from January to June 2024, a total of 1,996,136 light vehicles were manufactured, marking a growth of 5.24% compared to the same period in 2023. This continuous growth underscores Mexico's capacity and competitiveness in the global automotive industry.
Several companies have significantly contributed to this production increase. General Motors stands out with a production of 431,764 units in the first six months of 2024, 18.1% more than the same period in 2023, and a 48.1% increase in June production compared to June last year. Nissan produced 340,358 vehicles in the first half of the year, reflecting a 12.1% increase from 2023.
Chrysler manufactured 221,237 units from January to June 2024, with its June production increasing by 14.0% compared to June 2023. Ford Motor reached a production of 207,748 vehicles, showing a growth of 13.6% compared to the first half of the previous year. Volkswagen produced 202,194 units in the first half of the year, showing a 29.9% increase compared to January-June 2023. Other manufacturers, such as KIA, Mazda, Toyota, and Honda, also performed well, although some recorded decreases in June.
