Merck Mexico opens logistics center for chemical-pharmaceutical industry

German company opened the largest distribution center for the Industry in Mexico

 

Merck, leader in science and technology, opened its new 6,830 square meters latest technology distribution center for its business Life Science, headquartered in Toluca, Mexico.

 

By investing 7.5 million euros (about 8.2 million dollars) in building this facility, the German company will be capable of delivering products more quickly, and in turn, will encourage the best regional service on its type to customers throughout Mexico. 

 

Estado de Mexico has characterized by being one of the entities with the highest investment attraction. During the first semester of 2019, foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 1,405.6 million dollars, according to figures from the Ministry of Economy (SE, by its Spanish initials.)

 

Thus, it located as the second entity that registers more foreign investment, after Mexico City which amounted to 5,305.4 million dollars.

 

During this period, the investment arriving from Germany to Estado de Mexico registered 51.7 million dollars.

 

The Toluca distribution center will supply about 50,000 items from the business portfolio of Life Science, as Lab & Specialty Chemicals, which allow the continuous scientific discovery of comprehensive products in the manufacturing of drugs that comply with the highest quality and purity standards.

 

“Through the acquisition of 17,000 million dollars from Sigma-Aldrich in 2015 – the highest in its history – Merck positions as one of the main global actors of Life Science in the market, with the widest and complete comprehensive portfolio for developers, as well as manufacturers of different segments,” explained Luis Villanueva, director of Merck Sigma-Aldrich.

 

The site complies with GxP (good international practices,) which guarantees continue the alignments and quality expectations according to Industry regulations. Besides, the site will comply with ISO 9001 and its storage capability expands seven times the previous one, assuring the fulfillment of customers’ needs at the highest level.

 

Estado de Mexico has the commitment to support companies from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry to increase their presence in the country and the possibility of developing new products.

 

This distribution center, which construction began in January 2018, will have a capability of several types of storage, including temperature monitoring in the entire facility, such as flammable liquids, flammable solids, refrigerator, freezer, oxidants, toxic and no dangerous goods. Additionally, it could move more than 49,000 pallets, which means being the largest distribution center for the industry in Mexico.

 

According to Jose Arnaud from Carvalho Coelho, general director of Grupo Merck in Mexico and general manager of Health division, the new warehouse consolidates the commitment and efforts of Merck to invest in the country, which has geographic key importance for its potential growth in the future.

 

He announced that Merck expects to increase the annual sales volume between 5 and 10 % with the new facility and have quicker deliveries in Mexico.

 

“Life Science business offers a wide and strategic network of global distribution centers that assure the correct product is at the right place, in the correct moment to satisfy customers’ needs,” he said.

 

Continuing with the business mission of collaborating with the scientific community to solve the hardest problems in life science, the new distribution center will join the more than 130 distribution centers worldwide where Merck assures the best development of technological processes, best skills, and best people, to satisfy customers’ needs.

 

“When you have a business that has grown locally a 14 % average in the last 5 years, your infrastructure also has to grow. I am sure that, if we continue with our continuous growth of double-digit, this Merck investment rhythm in Mexico will continue to increase in the future, thanks to the disciplinary and innovative work we are doing, and that has led us to have a positive impact on our customers, consumers, and patients in all our divisions,” ended Jose Arnaud from de Carvalho Coelho.
