Liomont to invest more than MXN 4 billion in new vaccine and biopharmaceutical plants in Mexico

Laboratorios Liomont announced an investment of more than MXN 4 billion over the next five years to expand its pharmaceutical infrastructure, develop new technological capabilities and strengthen the national production of medicines, vaccines and biopharmaceuticals in Mexico.
Sergio Valentinotti, Director of Life Sciences at Laboratorios Liomont, said the company, which has operated in the country for 88 years, seeks to reinforce pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and health sovereignty through projects focused on advanced manufacturing and biotechnology.
“Talking about health sovereignty means ensuring that Mexico has the capacity to develop and produce the medicines and vaccines its population needs.”
Laboratorios Liomont is a Mexican pharmaceutical company specialized in the development and production of medicines, vaccines and biotechnology solutions. The company operates manufacturing and technological development facilities focused on strengthening national production and expanding the country’s pharmaceutical capabilities.
Liomont to expand pharmaceutical plants and vaccine production in Mexico
The project includes the construction of a new oral solids plant at its State of Mexico campus, as well as the expansion of its injectables plant focused on biotechnology medicines and vaccines. In parallel, in Mexico City, the company will develop an expansion of its biopharmaceutical and recombinant vaccine production plant, in addition to building a messenger RNA synthesis and encapsulation plant.
Valentinotti explained that these investments will generate 370 specialized direct jobs and around 400 highly qualified indirect jobs, in addition to the 1,700 employees the company currently has.
“These investments will generate highly specialized jobs and strengthen our productive and technological capabilities in the country.”
Biotechnology investment seeks to strengthen health sovereignty
During the pandemic, the company produced more than 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines at its plant located in Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico, an experience it now seeks to expand toward new biotechnology platforms.
“Today we are taking the next step by joining Plan Mexico. We share the vision of a Mexico that produces more and depends less on foreign sources in critical health matters.”
He also emphasized that the company seeks to develop long-term strategic capabilities for the national pharmaceutical industry.
