LEGO Group has marked a major milestone in its Americas supply chain strategy by initiating a $400 million expansion at its primary manufacturing complex in Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León. The toy manufacturer officially inaugurated its new "Packing C" facility while breaking ground on "Packing D," a move designed to significantly scale production and distribution operations across the Western Hemisphere.

Facility Scaling & Advanced Logistics Capabilities

The multi-phase expansion will add 62,000 square meters of operational space to the existing 148,080-square-meter footprint, bringing the total built area to 210,080 square meters situated across an 87-hectare site.

Key upgrades integrated into the new facilities include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing: High-efficiency production technology tailored for high-volume outputs.
  • Automated Warehousing: High-bay automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) to maximize logistics efficiency.
  • Geographic Reach: Capacity enhancements to reinforce the site's role as the single supply source for the entire Americas market.

Job Creation and LEED Sustainability Commitments

Beyond physical infrastructure, the capital injection serves as a major catalyst for regional economic growth in Northern Mexico.

  • Workforce Expansion: LEGO plans to generate 1,300 new direct jobs, building upon its existing local workforce of approximately 7,300 employees.
  • Environmental Standards: The entire expansion project is designed to satisfy LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards, aligning with the brand's global mandate for energy efficiency and resource management.

Public-Private Endorsement and Strategic Impact

The ground-breaking ceremony brought together top LEGO corporate leaders alongside state and federal officials to highlight Mexico's role in global value chains.

"Nuevo León continues to consolidate its position as the industrial hub of Latin America. The arrival and expansion of investments of this magnitude demonstrate that we have the talent, infrastructure, and conditions to compete globally," stated Samuel García, Governor of Nuevo León

Highlighting the plant's strategic productionshare, Ximena Escobedo, Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce at the Federal Ministry of Economy, noted that 90% of the output generated at the Ciénega de Flores complex is produced for export, emphasizing Mexico's competitive advantage in advanced manufacturing.

Nancy Sánchez, General Director and Senior Vice President of LEGO Operations Mexico, framed the opening of Packing C as the culmination of nearly two decades of operational evolution in Nuevo León, establishing the facility as the largest manufacturing plant in LEGO’s globalfootprint.
