Iron components to be manufactured in SLP for the automotive industry

Metal Technologies Components an American company invested 67 million dollars and will generate 280 direct jobs in the municipality of Villa de Reyes and SLP capital, it will produce parts of grey and nodular iron for the automotive market, of tractor trucks and agricultural applications, among others.

At its opening event, Matthew J. Fetter, president, and general director of Metal Technologies LCC (MTI,) said that on the first stage, the facilities will have an estimated capacity of more than 30 thousand casting pieces per year.

 “In MTI we believe that any can buy a building or equipment, but it is the people who make the difference and I am excited about our team here in Mexico, we believe we have a world-class team here in San Luis Potosi which will fulfill an outstanding operation,” he said.

The project is about to start a second phase, given the results from the synergy between human capital talent and the company’s long term vision, therefore the directive added that the complete project will have three phases, which include three molding lines and a capability of 100,000 casting pieces per year.

“We decided to buy 38 hectares, this building is only a small part of the entire property land, therefore, we have much space,” he said.

The company is part of a network of seven companies with operations in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Tennessee, being the San Luis Plant, the first one of the group in Mexico.

“We were founded 22 years ago by Rick James, with the objective of creating strategic solutions for our customers from medium casting industry, since its beginnings, MTI has grown and the seven plants together have achieved manufacturing 330,000 tons of grey ductile and volume castings and coupling fixing machining,” he said.

One of the main reasons why they decided to settle in the State was their customers are located in the Bajio area, among them are EATON, DANA, and American Axle. 

“We have new customers in San Luis Potosi, we are seeking to develop a long term relationship to mention some Hitachi Automotive Systems Mexico, Continental, TSM and John Deere,” explained Matthew J. Fetter.

Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Carreras, governor of the State, assured that with the sum of efforts and wills strong relationships are built, where cooperation and future vision are fundamental for the comprehensive growth of societies, he said that with this company local suppliers network is strengthened, since it means more jobs for SLP families.
