GM San Luis Complex committed with sustainable development

Going forward towards the future of the automotive Industry with vehicles that offer more technology, safety and connectivity
ITS HISTORY IN SAN LUIS POTOSI
GM San Luis Complex places the State since 2006, on the world map of the automotive industry. The company officially began operations in 2008 with the Assembly and Stamping plant for the manufacture of the Chevrolet Aveo.
For 2009, the opening of the Transmission Plant of its Complex in San Luis Potosi was carried out, in which the production of six-speed automatic transmissions to the front began, which achieves a greater efficiency in fuel consumption and with world-class technology, positioning the company, of the SLP entity, as key operation for the new General Motors Company.
In 2012 GM de Mexico announced an investment of 420 million dollars for the production of Chevrolet Trax in San Luis Potosi. In 2014, they invested close to 5 billion dollars in Mexico (corresponding to the 2013-2018 period,) an amount that has been used to update and expand their manufacturing complexes located in Toluca, Ramos Arizpe, Silao and San Luis Potosi.
Currently, the plant manufactures the Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models.

Ernesto M. Hernandez,
president and CEO of General Motors de Mexico, said the company is moving
towards the future of the automotive industry with vehicles that offer greater
technology, safety and connectivity, with the conviction that through their
actions, they contribute to the sustainable development of the communities
where they have a presence.
The three fundamental pillars that integrate the social responsibility
strategy for GM are environmental care, quality education and community
support.
At General Motors de
México, they promote confidence and teamwork, by creating healthy work
environments, recognizing the participation and achievements of employees and
promoting their personal and professional development.
With a total of 19,000 employees, from which more than 5,000 belong to
the San Luis Potosi plant, they offer equal opportunities for men and
women. From the total number of
employees, 76 % are men and 24 % are women.
In 2017, 15 international assignments were
fulfilled, 506 job promotions, 83 employees are studying a master's degree and
64 participated in the TEP (Technical Education Program.)
In the company,
diversity enriches the culture and opens the scenario to explore new visions
and ways of working, thus promoting equal opportunities for all employees,
ensuring an inclusive work environment and mutual respect.
Alicia del Valle, director of the San Luis
Potosi Complex, said that at the plant located in Villa de Reyes, it is a subject
continuously promoted as part of the three pillars of GM.
In the companies located in the Country, they
have more than 70 employees with some kind of disability, mainly of hearing and
motor kind. In San Luis Potosi a total
of 15 people with disabilities work.
“Practically in all
the plant they can work, as much in the administrative areas as those of
manufacture, in all of them we can incorporate people with disabilities. If necessary, adjustments are made for the integration
of personnel with a specific disability,” said Alicia del Valle.
A success story in the
complex of SLP entity is Adan Salinas, who currently works in the area of
awnings sub-assembly. He has a motor
disability and uses a wheelchair.
“Our plant and facilities
are adapted for people could move freely and be independent throughout the
town. Their work area, devices and tools
are reviewed and adjusted in such a manner that they can carry out their work
comfortably and without any limitations,” said the director.
In 2013, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security awarded the “Inclusive Company, Gilberto Rincon Gallardo” distinction to the San Luis Potosi Complex for encouraging diversity and including people with different abilities as part of their team.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND WATER MANAGEMENT
The San Luis Potosi Complex was awarded with the special recognition of Environmental Excellence in 2017, since within the actions carried out vehicles manufacturing that contributes to sustainable development among which highlight: vigorously pursue the development and implementation of technologies to minimize the emission of pollutants, constantly assess the impact of plants and products on the environment and in the communities in which they operate.
They work in taking care of the environment through
the reduction, efficiency and use of clean sources in energy processes, they
occupy 61 % of electricity and 39 % of natural gas, and they look for a future
with zero emissions, so they work in the manufacture of vehicles more efficient
and with alternative propulsion systems.
At the San Luis Potosi plant, where the use of water
is restricted, they have a zero liquid discharge system and equipment with
state-of-the-art water treatment technology, which reduces the use and
extraction of groundwater. 62% of
wastewater reuse is treated and 63% of water reuse is treated against
extraction.
In 2008 San Luis Potosi Complex became the first plant in the history of General Motors to have a zero liquid discharge system.
THE STATE IS LOCATED ON THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY WORLD MAP
The connectivity with different cities, the more than
5,204.92 kilometers of state roads, the 1,252 kilometers of railways that allow
access to the United States, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico are some
of the advantages that have been the great factor for the automotive companies
decides to settle in San Luis Potosi.
In the last 12 years, the SLP entity has grown above the national average, only in the last three years is above the almost 4 percent growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In addition, it is the second city with the highest economy in the country with 7.6 percent.
Before GM San Luis Complex arrived at the entity, there were 122 companies that supplied the large plants of the automotive industry, but it was until 2006, with the arrival of the US company, which increased the supply chain and 101 companies were established, reaching a total of 223.
SUPPLIERS
GM is close to suppliers to integrate best
practices into their processes; to set it off, they promote different
initiatives and tools that allow their business partners to improve their
skills.
Through a joint training program created in 2013
by GM de Mexico and the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Queretaro, they help train
suppliers in the automotive industry to strengthen the supply chain.
In Mexico they collaborate with more than 550 suppliers; 7,170 have participated, 3,240 exams have been applied, and they have suppliers from 19 States and 2 international.
In this 2017 recognized 92 suppliers with the “Award for Excellence in Supplier Quality.”
