GAP Announces New Terminal for Puerto Vallarta International Airport; will have an investment of three million pesos

The Airport Group of the Pacific (GAP)  announced this year its expansion plan that includes building a new terminal with zero emissions at the International Airport of Puerto Vallarta .

The project aims to meet the demand and growth of the destination and the region, so this development is part of its Master Development Program 2020-2024.

With the confidence that the destination has generated, both national and international passenger traffic have shown a positive trend month by month, so that during 2020 the city's air terminal had a recovery of 68%, compared to 2019 when 56,526 air frequencies were registered . 

Regarding passengers, there was a recovery of 50.2% with 2.5 million travelers, under the same comparison, considering the impact caused by Covid-19.

The Puerto Vallarta International Airport received 24% more operations during December compared to the previous month, with the operation of seven national airlines, six from the United States and four from Canada. 

With the above, the GAP considered an investment of around three million pesos for a new terminal at this airport, within its investment plans for around 28 billion pesos to strengthen the infrastructure of the 12 airports it operates in Mexico . 

During 2020 the city's airport invested in security equipment with a value of eight million pesos, in the Baggage Handling System (BHS) that had a value of 138 million pesos, SSEI for 22 million pesos, Field Rehabilitation of Flight for 168 million pesos, Solar Panels with a value of 14 million pesos and finally an investment of 1.4 million pesos for the Terminal Building . 

Currently, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport has a total of:

  • 20 positions (127,600 m2 platform) 
  • 11 direct boarding aisles / 14 Aerocares
  • 2 last waiting rooms for national and international passengers
  • Baggage handling system (BHS) 
  • 10 emergency plants distributed by zones
  • 44,177 m2: Terminal building total area
  • Runway 04-22 of 3.105 m by 45 m. 
  • General Aviation: 810 m2 of building: 24 positions and two Helidecks

In this 2020, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport was positioned in the first places in the Top in Mexico by passenger traffic, with a total of 29 destinations (eight national and 21 international) 22 Airlines (seven national and 15 international) ; resulting in 38,867 operations throughout the year . 

Regarding the number of passengers, the destination received 2,536,100 travelers : 1,584,600 Pax. International (50.7%) and 951,550 Pax. Nationals (48.3%). 

It should be noted that the new T2 will be a NET Zero (Zero Emissions) smart building  with an energy saving of 40.78% and a drinking water saving of 58.3%, in which each luggage system will have two tomography inspection equipment for greater security.
