March 8 marks the International Day of Working Women, which commemorates the struggle for equality, participation and empowerment of women in all areas of society, which was initially consolidated in the workplace.

The feminine power of Coahuila is a national example: more than 43% of the state's workforce are women, who have found the options to be a fundamental driver of the economy, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

57% of women working in Coahuila do so in formal employment and are mainly in the services and commerce sector, which reaffirms the commitment of entrepreneurs and society to work for equal opportunities.

With this figure, Coahuila occupies the third place in the country of the states with the highest participation of women in formal jobs, above the national average, which is almost 38%, according to the Inegi figures obtained through the National Population and Employment Survey (ENOE 2019).

Among other items led by the Coahuila women's workforce are those with the highest number of workers with a written contract; the first place in labor formality; and the state with the highest number of workers with work benefits.

Likewise, the Inegi reported that 35% of women in work formality have childcare services, which allows them to be more calm in their work centers.

Coahuila, according to official figures, has 3,092,916 inhabitants, of which 50.4% are women, and of these, there are more than 500,000 that make up the economically active population with some occupation.

The idea of an international women's day arose at the end of the 19th century, which was, in the industrialized world, a period of expansion and turbulence, and brilliant population growth.

But it was not until March 19, 1911 that in Europe that the first celebration of International Women's Day was held, specifically in the countries of Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland, and its commemoration has been extending, since then, to other countries and continents.
