One of the industries with the highest growth in the
country is wind energy, and Tamaulipas occupies the first position nationwide
in the development and operation of projects in this sector, same that
represents an estimated investment of 2 thousand 400 million dollars and the
creation of 3 thousand direct and indirect jobs.
Tamaulipas wind potential equals 38 % of the effective
capability of electric energy generation of the country.
Currently, 8 wind farms operate in this State
distributed in the municipalities of Reynosa, Victoria, Guemez, Llera and
Casas, with the capability to generate about 1000 MWh.
4 complexes are being constructed in the
municipalities of Guemez, Llera and Casas with an authorized capability higher
than 562 MWh.
Francisco Garcia Cabeza de Vaca, governor of the state
of Tamaulipas; Miguel Angel Maciel Torres, undersecretary of Energy from
Mexico’s Government; and Paolo Romanacci, general director for Mexico and
Central America of ENEL Green Power, international company dedicated to the
development and operation of renewable energies, opened the Wind Farm
“Salitrillos” in Reynosa.
The opening event was also attended by the mayor Maki
Esther Ortiz Dominguez; the Eight Military Zone Commander of the Ministry of
National Defense, General Arturo Pancardo Escudero, as well as authorities and
students from the Universidad Tecnologica de Reynosa, Matamoros, and Nuevo
Laredo.
SALITRILLOS WIND FARM
The development
of this wind farm was in charge of the Italian company ENEL Green Power. Salitrillos wind farm is the first to start
operating during 2019 nationally, it has a capability of 103MW and its annual
production is of 430 GWh. The investment
of this project was of 132 million USD (120 million dollars were for the
initial stage and 12 million dollars for 10% expansion, which was signed in May
2018 with CFE.)
The wind farm
has 30 wind turbines, each with a capability to produce 103 MWh
(megawatts/hour,) equal to electric energy consumption of 200 thousand Mexican
homes.
The project
developed by Enel Green Power privileged the preservation of local environment,
by rescuing more than 16 thousand 500 regional flora and fauna species, in
addition of the implementation of water saving systems and recycling processes.
