Before representatives of over 300 companies from India, Carlos Garza, Project Manager of the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (Edinburg EDC), showcased the competitive advantages the city offers to foreign investors. He highlighted the strategic location, the presence of industrial parks, international logistical connectivity, and low unemployment rates.

"Our city is the fifth fastest-growing in Texas. We have high demand for land and commercial or manufacturing spaces. We offer a comprehensive package for investors that includes location, housing, and skilled labor," Garza stated.

Edinburg boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the region, and with the trend of nearshoring, companies have driven new processes in manufacturing, technology, and logistics, Garza added.

The strategic location and logistical connections provide investors the ability to move to any other city in the Rio Grande Valley, such as McAllen, Pharr, Mission, Weslaco, Donna, Mercedes, or Brownsville. "We are at the heart of this region and also close to Mexico, specifically to industrial cities like Reynosa in Tamaulipas," he noted.

The meeting between Edinburg and the Indian delegation was part of the economic promotion actions carried out by the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP).

Nearshoring and Its Benefits for Edinburg's Economic Development

Garza also emphasized that the high demand for commercial and industrial land reflects Edinburg's economic prosperity and the need for a skilled workforce, particularly in manufacturing, medical industry, and logistics sectors, which have been the focus of growth in recent years. "We are always organizing job fairs, linking young people with companies, and seeking better opportunities for professionals. Innovation and technology are key, which is why we rely on the universities established in Edinburg."

The Indian delegation included representatives from Startup Runway and the International Startup Foundation, who expressed interest in maintaining communication with Edinburg EDC to establish business collaboration opportunities and foster new investment projects.
