EA211 engine to be produced at Volkswagen Silao plant

Volkswagen de México announced the production of the new EA211 engine , which will be manufactured at its plant located in Silao, Guanajuato .

This engine will be integrated into the model line of the German manufacturer in the North American region in its 2021 models, and with this, the production capacity in Silao and for the VW plants in Puebla and Chattanooga, United States , as well as for the AUDI  plant in San José Chiapa, Puebla .

"VW's commitment is endorsed with this new project that provides stability to jobs in the area," he said.

Milan Stanek, director of the Volkswagen Guanajuato Engine Plant, announced that it has a strong commitment to generating new projects for the benefit of the entity's economic growth.

He said that with this new engine , the plant's capacity and job stability will grow , as well as the recovery of the economy in 2020.

Christopher Glover, Vice President of Production and Logistics, informed that this plant manufactures the EA888 engine in different variables for known models in the assembly factories to which it distributes the products.

In this engine plant in Silao, Guanajuato, more than 330,000 engines were produced in 2019 , which is why it celebrated the arrival of a new engine, as it shows the team's skills and the group's confidence in Mexico.

For this EA211 engine , a new engine assembly line will be installed, as well as new production lines for monoblock, crankshaft, heads, cylinders and connecting rods.

With this new model , the plant's capacity will increase by around 1,000 units per day, which represents 70% more production .

The investment in this project is 233 million dollars , adding a total of 855 million dollars that the company has invested in the Silao plant.

Steffen Reiche, president and CEO of Volkswagen de México, said that to date, the Puebla and Guanajuato plants have produced more than 14 million engines , which has been a key part of the development of the company's cars, which have been characterized by its power and efficiency.
