Around 70 Dutch companies are interested on settle in Mexico, said Steven Butter, general manager from the Holland Office for Business in Mexico.

“This year we have four already planned commercial missions; around 70 Dutch companies will be coming because they are interested in establishing operations in Mexico,” he said.

Steven Buter said that 2018 was a very good year for Holland in Mexico, since different investments were settled of small, medium and large companies in different entities.

He explained that small Dutch sales companies arrived in Mexico; medium production companies and large companies such as Heineken and Shell.

With a database from the Ministry of Economy (SE, by its Spanish initials,) during 2018, foreign direct investment (FDI) from the Netherlands in Mexico reached 605.2 million dollars.

In the accumulated from 1999 by the end of 2018, Dutch investment in Mexico adds 20,535.7 million dollars.

According to Steven Buter, the most attractive sectors for Dutch investors are agri-food, oil & gas and automotive, to mention a few.  “Mexico is interesting for Holland – and for the entire world – for its people, they are hard workers, all of them want to learn and are good workers.  Mexico’s biggest secret is its people.  In addition, it is close to the United States and Canada, but without people there is no success in Mexico,” he explained.

He underlined that Holland is positioned within the top 5 in the e-mobility sector and electric driving.

The general manager revealed that they are in talks with different Governments to analyze how a project can be developed in Mexico with Dutch technology to encourage mobility and electric diving.

“In the Netherlands almost all taxis are TESLA, we already have the infrastructure, we only want to copy the project for Mexico,” he said.

BAJIO ATTRACTION

According to SE, Queretaro registered the arrival of 10.8 million dollars from the Netherlands in 2018 and San Luis Potosi, 8.5 million.

“We have many Dutch companies already installed and interested in the Bajio.  There are 40 companies established in Queretaro only and also several in Guanajuato; hopefully we are able to reach double figures,” said Buter.

Finally, Steven Buter said that Holland feels welcomed in Mexico: “We are working together with all Governments, entrepreneurs and people in Mexico, we are happy and grateful with Mexico for welcoming us with open arms.”
