BMW Group SLP will produce 175,000 vehicles

BMW Group announced that they will be moving part of the Serie 3 vehicle production, with internal combustion engine, from Germany to Mexico, due to that the Munich plant, where their most sold vehicle is produced, it at the limit of its capacity.
With this, the facilitates they have in San Luis Potosi will increase the manufacturing to 175,000 units of vehicle per month, in addition their jobs capability will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 positions as soon as the production of the vehicle starts in March 2019
Regarding this information, Gustavo Puente, secretary of Economic Development (SEDEC, by its Spanish initials) said that assembler companies are adapting to the new commerce policies worldwide, therefore they are redirecting production issues being done by BMW Group to the SLP plant gives for that and more.
“BMW is projecting a plant much larger that the first stage announced in 2014, what we are seeing is a growth that will be given in a permanent manner, since it is a plant that will be developed for the next 10 years,” he said.
The factory in Germany has 50 hectares against the 300 hectares that the plant has in San Luis Potosi, therefore the growth expectation of the brand in the country is very ambitious.
“What has interested them from
the State is its logistics, the suppliers they have found and the workforce
which has been very effective and competitive, they are very happy and the
result of being here have been very positive,” said Gustavo Puente.
The secretary explained that BMW Group San Luis Potosi is already manufacturing the previous series of light vehicles, their previous production is between 12 or 13 vehicles daily and will be manufacturing 35 per hour.
“It is expected that during the first trimester of the year the first Serie 3 will be sold manufactured in San Luis, although the opening of the plant will be in the middle of 2019,” he noted.
Alexander Rios Forscht, head of
the project Serie 3, at the plant in Munich, said that due to that the plant in
Germany is at its capability limit, it was necessary to restructure the
production of the vehicle.
This is how Munich will be increasing from 10 to 30 percent the manufacturing of the Serie 3 hybrid, with what they will stop producing some 4,000 units per month, production that will be in Mexico to supply world markets.
The Serie 3 from BMW, which
started its manufacturing in 1975 and today is produced in China and Germany,
and soon in Mexico, has sold 15 million units worldwide.
