A new MXN 590 million investment in Aguascalientes is reinforcing Mexico’s position as a competitive destination for advanced automotive manufacturing. KyS Mexicana, a Japanese-owned company within the Sumitomo corporate group, is expanding its production capacity in the state, further consolidating the region as one of the country’s most dynamic industrial hubs.

The project includes the development of a new facility at the San Francisco Industrial Park, designed with next-generation production capabilities. Once fully operational, the plant will stand as the most technologically advanced Sumitomo facility in the Americas, reflecting a long-term strategy focused on innovation, operational efficiency, and technological specialization.

Advanced Manufacturing Driven by Aluminum Harness Technology

A key component of the expansion is the launch of a new production line dedicated to aluminum wiring harnesses. This technology is increasingly important for the evolution of the automotive sector, as it enables lighter vehicles with improved energy performance and reduced fuel consumption.

By integrating aluminum harness systems, the facility aligns local manufacturing with global industry trends centered on efficiency and sustainability. The transition from traditional materials to lighter, more efficient alternatives represents a structural shift in automotive production, positioning Aguascalientes as a reference point for advanced and sustainable manufacturing in Mexico.

Regional Integration and Supply Chain Competitiveness

The expansion is also expected to deepen integration with regional suppliers, increasing local and regional content within automotive supply chains. This is particularly relevant under the framework of the USMCA, where regional value content plays a critical role in maintaining trade competitiveness across North America.

In addition to strengthening supplier networks, the project supports the creation of specialized, high-quality jobs and the development of technical talent in the region. The introduction of advanced manufacturing technologies raises production standards and reinforces Aguascalientes’ reputation as a reliable destination for high-impact industrial investment.

Overall, the KyS Mexicana expansion underscores the state’s ability to attract productive foreign direct investment, promote industrial innovation, and advance toward a more competitive and sustainable automotive industry.
