ZKW inaugurates second stage of its plant at GPI; invest 74 million dollars

With an investment of 74 million dollars, the ZKW company inaugurated the expansion of its plant, located in Guanajuato Puerto Interior, with which it adds 14,000 m2 for productive space and 5,500 m2 for logistics activity, reaching a total of 19,500 m2 of extra space added to the 22,000 m2 already existing.
The plant will have a total production capacity of 1.5 million lighthouses per year.
In this regard, Francois Smaniotto, director of operations at ZKW, reported that the implementation of Lean Manufacturing in this plant is a competitive advantage and allows them to provide the tools to compete globally.
In addition, 80 spaces will be added for offices and 600 more for production areas.
For his part, Jan Seumenicht, vice president and general director of ZKW, said that they are waiting to continue growing in Guanajuato, therefore, he did not rule out that a third phase will be announced soon , where 50 people will be increased in the office area and 600 more for the productive areas.
LEADING TECHNOLOGY
In this second phase, the plant installed automatic and semi-automatic assembly lines, processes such as plastic injection with machines from 50 to 1,700 tons, each one will have a robot; injection and assembly of optical modules, aluminum and color metallization, as well as automatic storage on shelves.
The official production start will be in August of this year.
COLLABORATE IN TRAINING
Juan Carlos López Rodríguez, general director of the State Training Institute (IECA), reported on a project that they carried out in conjunction with ZKW and that reached its completion stage, which consists of joint training in order to polish employees in diverse skills and training in the Lean Transformation philosophy .
"We were focused on the contribution that the collaborators will give to the company through this philosophy, which will add to its competitive advantages and internal quality," he commented.
