Ultimate Solar Advanced Technology to Build Semiconductor Plant in Yucatán with Major Investment
March 29, 2026
Ultimate Solar Advanced Technology (USAT), an international company specializing in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and solar energy-related technologies, will establish a new plant in Kanasín, Yucatán, with an investment of MXN 2.43 billion and the creation of 1,000 highly specialized direct jobs.
Backed by Mexican and Canadian capital, the project will be developed in two phases and is expected to position Yucatán as a new reference point for the production of strategic components tied to the global energy transition. In its first phase alone, the company will invest MXN 1.52 billion in the initial construction of the plant, which will focus on manufacturing next-generation solar cells.
Technological advancement for southeastern Mexico
The USAT facility will have the capacity to produce one gigawatt of solar cells annually, equivalent to the energy consumption of more than 1.5 million households. This level of output places Yucatán on the map of advanced manufacturing and integrates the state into supply chains linked to strategic sectors such as solar energy and clean technologies, semiconductors, industrial automation, electrical engineering, and precision manufacturing.
Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena said the arrival of this industry represents a structural shift for the local economy by creating jobs that currently do not exist in the state and that have historically pushed young professionals to seek opportunities elsewhere. According to economic authorities, these new positions will offer salaries up to seven times higher than the state’s average daily wage.
Economic impact and local supplier development
USAT’s arrival is expected to generate a broader ecosystem of opportunities for Yucatán-based companies involved in logistics and transportation, industrial maintenance, technology services, component manufacturing, automation, and control systems.
The establishment of this high-value-added industry not only diversifies the state economy, but also helps build local capabilities in future-oriented sectors, strengthening regional competitiveness and attracting additional technology investment.
Yucatán emerges as a destination for advanced manufacturing
USAT’s decision to choose Yucatán was driven by factors such as security, social stability, human talent, and strategic infrastructure development. For the company, the state offers the conditions needed to support a long-term project capable of transforming the region’s industrial profile.
Mario Emilio Sáenz, representative of OC Investments Fund and partner at USAT, emphasized that the plant will be the first of its kind in Latin America and described Yucatán as the ideal location due to its operational certainty and technological growth potential.
