Two new oil refineries will be built in Matamoros

As part of the big energy project taking place at the Port of Matamoros, it is anticipated that by the end of 2018 the construction of two refineries will be started in the city.

One of the refineries will be located in the western part of the city and the other one at the Port of Matamoros, in both projects is estimated that 620 million pesos will be invested, said Arturo Gomez Ibarra, secretary of Economic Promotion and Employment in Matamoros.

“Currently, these companies are in the stage of process and delivery of documents; however, once this process is concluded the construction of these industrial complexes will be started, they will produce diesel and fuel,” assured the secretary of Economic Promotion and Employment.

One of the projects will have an investment of 500 million dollars and in the other one resource will be applied in the order of 120 million dollars, the official said.

The refinery, that will be located in the Reynosa highway, decided to choose this area because there are gas pipelines required to produce diesel and fuel.

On the other hand the refinery that will be located at the Port of Matamoros heading to the beach, require a production process that requires lots of water, for this is anticipated to use sea water, that is why it will be established in the port area.

“Both groups of investors of refineries construction are of American capital and see in Matamoros the potential to install refineries, the western side of the city will use the gas pipelines, since it requires not of oil, but of a type of gas to produce diesel and some kind of fuel,” said Arturo Gomez Ibarra, secretary of Economic Promotion and Employment in Matamoros.

The official highlighted that will be generated considerable jobs and mainly engineering graduates will be required related with hydrocarbons exploitation.

On the other hand, regarding the benefic impact for the region, said that the city will be self-sufficient for fuel and diesel supply, and this will favor that prices per liter of this fuel tend to decrease.
