Torreón expansion of the Industrias Peñoles zinc plant opens in Torreón

Industrias Peñoles inaugurated the expansion of the zinc plant in Torreón, Coahuila, which will allow it to produce 350,000 tons per year of this mineral. With this growth in production, the lagoon plant will move from fourteenth place to sixth as a producer of this metal worldwide.
Most of the production, around 80,000 tons of zinc, will go to the United States market, and the rest to Europe. The plant currently produces 230,000 tons of zinc per year.
Fernando Alanís Ortega, executive director of Industrias Peñoles, was in charge of inaugurating the plant with Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, governor of Coahuila, who toured the current zinc plant, where they witnessed the steps that are carried out inside of the production of this metal.
During this tour they were also Jaime Guerra Pérez, Secretary of Economy of the State; Román Alberto Cepeda González, Secretary of Labor; Rafael Rebollar González, director of Chemical Metals of Peñoles Industries, and Jorge Zermeño Infante, Mayor of Torreón.

Rafael Rebollar said that the investment of more than 350 million dollars will be supplied entirely from the clean energy generated in the wind farm that the company has in General Cepeda, Coahuila.
For his part, the state president thanked the trust that this company has had with the Laguna Region and with Coahuila in general, to continue investing in its different expansion projects, which generate jobs, as well as being a Socially Responsible Company and identified with The community of this region of our state.
Riquelme Solís added that Coahuila maintains its economic development, and that this is due to the coordination and constant and close dialogue that government, private initiative and society have, which has given confidence to national and foreign companies to make Coahuila the destination of its investments, raising competitiveness among the existing industry.
