Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Baja California, and Tamaulipas accounted for over half of Mexico’s manufacturing exports in early 2025.

According to recent data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), five states led the country’s manufacturing exports in the first quarter of 2025. Combined, they contributed more than 50% of the total export value in the sector—solidifying their role as Mexico’s industrial and trade powerhouses.

Chihuahua Leads as Mexico’s Top Exporting State

Chihuahua topped the national ranking with USD $21.3 billion in exports—a 27.5% year-over-year growth—accounting for 16% of total manufacturing exports. The state continues to lead in key manufacturing sectors such as electronics, automotive components, and computing equipment, reinforcing its strategic industrial role in northern Mexico.

Coahuila and Nuevo León Drive Automotive and Metalworking Growth

Coahuila secured second place with USD $15.8 billion in exports, representing 11.8% of the national total. Its performance is driven primarily by automotive production and the metal-mechanic industry.

Nuevo León followed with USD $13.3 billion, equivalent to 9.9% of total manufacturing exports. The state’s industrial base is powered by home appliances, machinery, and electronic components, sustaining its status as a key innovation and manufacturing center in northeastern Mexico.

Baja California and Tamaulipas Excel in Strategic Sectors

Baja California reported USD $12.6 billion in exports, contributing 9.4% of the national value. The state's strength lies in its robust base of medical devices, aerospace, and electronics manufacturing, supported by maquiladora operations along the U.S. border.

Meanwhile, Tamaulipas exported USD $8.6 billion, representing 6.4% of the total. The state plays a strategic role in the automotive and electronics sectors, particularly in the Reynosa-Matamoros corridor, a hub for high-value manufacturing and cross-border trade.

Manufacturing Drives Mexico’s Export Growth

Together, these five states accounted for 53.5% of Mexico’s total export value in Q1 2025. The manufacturing sector grew by 5.1% year-over-year, representing over 90% of all state-level exports nationwide. This underscores manufacturing’s central role in Mexico’s trade performance and broader economic resilience.

Mexico's Global Positioning in Advanced Manufacturing

The export performance of these states confirms Mexico’s competitiveness as a global supplier of high-value-added products. Despite international economic pressures and supply chain disruptions, the country continues to strengthen its industrial base and export-oriented economy.
