The Canadian company Tim Hortons announced an investment of 600 million pesos in the installation of 50 restaurants in the municipalities of Querétaro, El Marqués, Corregidora and San Juan del Río.

Juan José Gutiérrez Chapa, CEO of Tim Hortons Mexico, specified that 30 branches will be installed in the municipality of Querétaro, and between five and 10 in the rest of the surrounding municipalities.

Of the total employment, he reported that 10% are aimed at people over 65 years of age.

In addition, he announced that currently, 30% of the coffee that is marketed is Mexican, but the goal is by the end of 2023 to reach 80% of national grain, specifically, from Chiapas, for which he will work with the small producers in this region, to later export the grain to Canada for roasting.

“Today the grain is going to be roasted in Canada because what is sought is to roast the entire product in one place. This maintains quality”, assured the CEO.

In addition to this, he reported that Tim Hortons recently signed a national agreement with Walmart and Sams, to open 250 points with both firms. Others that it has signed of the same nature are with the Tecnológico de Monterrey and Tec Milenio, among others.

He highlighted the opportunity that local suppliers and producers have to join the supply chain not only nationally, but globally in its more than 4,000 cafeterias.

“[Tim Hortons is] seeking to be the largest fast food chain in the world and we want to open the doors to Querétaro. What we are looking for is to work with Querétaro, which is a production center that has the infrastructure to be able to do it, through its parks, its airports, its highways, and that can export and that can be certified by the brand,” he said.

In his speech Mauricio Kuri González, governor of the state, highlighted that the goal as a government is “to take Querétaro to the next level, doing it hand in hand with businesswomen, businessmen; and of course, of the best quality of labor that can be found in the country”.
