More than 100 million dollars will be invested in the Río Bravo-Donna International Bridge  for the implementation of a " model project ", which will allow the crossing of empty and loaded trucks from north to south, through a new joint review customs between Mexico and the United States, with which it is expected to serve up to 1,000 units per day.

The complete execution is visualized in a period of 14 months, but from the first phase that will be implemented in 2023, the transition to empty units will be available.

The new infrastructure includes the expansion to six traffic lanes, of which two will be exclusively for heavy transport, the construction of a control tower with innovative technology and x-ray machines, which will avoid the need for agents in field.

Of the resources to be invested, 80 million will be provided by Donna , Texas, and the remaining amount through the Texas Department of Transportation , and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office.

In an interview for Mexico Industry , Carlos Yerena, manager of the city of Donna, mentioned that " the resources are already ready for this project, we know that it will be a trigger for international trade between Mexico and the United States, with more agility of crossing for the trucks, this will allow companies to make several trips in one day to streamline their processes ”.

Regarding the efforts to carry out the project, Yerena emphasized the support they have received from Rafael Martín, head of the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM), and the governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya, for the development and implementation of the project, as well as the federal government of the United States.

Walter Weaver, director of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the ports of entry of Progreso and Donna, Texas, commented that up to 10 modules will be located within the expansion of the tax yard to inspect cargo units. “ They will go through an x-ray review that will be monitored from the operational offices where all the CBP agents will be, and only when a review is necessary, the unit will be sent for review to ensure that everything is in order. ”

The Donna-Río Bravo International Bridge is located in an important economic corridor between the cities of Río Bravo, in Tamaulipas, and Donna, in Texas.

Yerena emphasized the arrival of new investments and development that the region will have, when the " model project " is ready. “ As a city, we have noticed greater economic growth in the last few months because there is a very prosperous commercial relationship with Mexico, so we are sure that when this project is completed we will be benefited, as part of a great region” .
