The United States Consulate General in Matamoros opens New facilities

The United States
Consulate General in Matamoros celebrated the official opening of their new and
updated facilities.
The opening event of
the new facilities of the United States General Consulate in Matamoros had the
presence of distinguished authorities of both countries: Neda Brown, United
States general counselor in Matamoros; John S. Creamer, business manager of the United States Embassy in
Mexico; Addison Davis, director of the Office of Foreign Building Operations
of the State Department in the United States;
Francisco Garcia Cabeza de Vaca, governor of the state of Tamaulipas and Mario
Lopez Hernandez, mayor of Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
Neda Brown, United
States general counselor in Matamoros, said that synergy between Matamoros,
Tamaulipas and Brownsville, TX. reflects great potential on their border
crossings, commerce, manufacturing and new energy projects.
Meanwhile, Addision
Davis, director of the Office of Foreign
Building Operations of the United States Department of State, said that he is proud to direct an organization that
allows creating a solid and upgraded platform for diplomacy of the United
States worldwide.
John S. Creamer, head
of business at the United States Embassy in Mexico, explained that this new
consular offices facilities are a physical representation of the United States
commitment with the people of Matamoros, the State of Tamaulipas and Mexico.
Francisco Garcia Cabeza de Vaca, governor of the state of Tamaulipas, talked about the commercial importance of the region shared by Texas and Tamaulipas, as well as the opportunities that together they can potentiate and the challenges united they can overcome; which without doubt join both countries.
HISTORY
The United States
Consulate General in Matamoros was founded in 1825, and it is considered the
oldest United States consulate operating in Mexico.
The diplomatic mission
of the United States in Mexico consists on one embassy, nine consulates and ten
consular agencies, but it has operated more than 90 diplomatic offices since
they diplomatically recognized Mexico in 1822.
A MODERN BUILDING
The new facilities of
the United States Consulate General in Matamoros includes an extension of 7.6
hectares. Its construction began in 2016
and 1,375 local employees participated on the project.
Their facilities are
considered the most Avant-grade; besides being modern, it is ecological and
sustainable, since it is designed to collect and store rainwater needed for
almost all irrigation. Moreover, it has
low flow pluming accessories, which allow buildings consuming between 30 to 40
% less water than a normal building.
Furthermore, it is
designed with energy efficient lighting and of conditioning systems with energy
savings projections of 20 to 30 % below a typical building constructed for the
construction codes in the United States.
Sustainable environmental facilities represent a commitment of 175
million dollars of the United States with Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
