October 25, 2023 - Tesla, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has formally requested the initiation of infrastructure works in the state of Nuevo León to kickstart the construction of its highly anticipated Gigafactory in the municipality of Santa Catarina.

Through a memorandum, Tesla has petitioned the Nuevo León State Government to commence the construction of a comprehensive set of infrastructure projects related to energy, water, transportation, and railways, preceding the establishment of its new plant. This includes the construction of an electrical substation and the necessary infrastructure for the transmission of electrical energy to the properties.

The company's request extends to the construction and expansion of railway lines to the properties, as per approved plans by the competent authority. Additionally, it entails the creation of a railway yard in coordination with the selected railway operator.

"The construction of an electrical substation and the necessary infrastructure for the transmission of electrical energy to the properties. The construction and expansion of railway lines to the properties, as per approved plans by the competent authority," elucidates the memorandum.

Furthermore, Tesla emphasizes the need for the construction of infrastructure for water and sanitation services.

"Provision of treated and potable water to the Project, through a contract with the Company through the corresponding public entity. The Company expresses its commitment to maximizing the beneficial use of treated water for the Investment Project and will make its best efforts to reduce its consumption of potable water through a sustainable process," Tesla stated.

The document underscores the joint recognition by the company and the government that the project will trigger regional growth. Hence, both parties acknowledge the crucial need to invest in necessary infrastructure for access, schools, health centers, and basic services to support the forthcoming economic and industrial developments.
