In the ongoing construction project of Tesla's gigafactory in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, significant progress is reported in the infrastructure works preceding the establishment of the world's foremost electric car plant.
Throughout the final days of December, work crews undertook essential tasks for site preparation, including ground leveling, area layout, topography, and general cleaning in the designated gigafactory area.
These preliminary tasks precisely defined control points, structure layouts, as well as the section allocated for access ramps and the expansion of the third lane on the Monterrey–Saltillo highway.
Proactive Measures
A notable aspect of this initial phase is the construction of an elevated vehicular bridge, crucial for facilitating traffic flow in the area. Additionally, the expansion of a third lane on the Monterrey–Saltillo free highway is planned, a proactive measure to address the anticipated increase in vehicular traffic resulting from strategies to attract foreign direct investment and capitalize on nearshoring.
To ensure the efficiency and robustness of the construction, soil mechanics will commence for deep foundation load verification. These studies, conducted through soil mechanics, will provide crucial information about the characteristics, qualities, and load-bearing capacities of the materials on which the bridges' foundations will rest. The results of these surveys will be decisive for the structural design of each project involved.
Local Workforce Activation
The state government emphasizes that beyond the project's regional significance in terms of investment and industrial development, the activation of the local workforce is another significant factor.
From civil works to specialized technicians operating these facilities, the economy of Nuevo León is expected to benefit at various levels due to Tesla's gigafactory. These positive impacts are anticipated to extend across the entire production chain, providing an additional boost to the state's economy.
