Ternium is advancing the consolidation of its Industrial Center in Pesquería, where the third expansion phase adds an investment of $4 billion and brings the complex’s accumulated investment to more than $7.5 billion, positioning it as one of the most relevant steelmaking projects currently operating in Mexico.
This stage incorporates new production capabilities with pickling and customized processing operations, as well as cold rolling and galvanizing lines that began operations in February. This expands the supply of high value-added steel for industrial sectors, particularly the automotive industry.
Production expansion strengthens high-value steel offering
During an official tour of the facilities led by Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, the company presented progress on the new steel mill that is part of the project and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026. This facility will increase the production of automotive steel with advanced specifications and lower CO₂ emissions per ton, in line with the requirements of the global industry.
The complex already integrates new lines such as Galvanizing 2 and PLTCM 2, which reinforce flat steel processing capacity, a key input for value chains such as automotive, home appliances, and advanced manufacturing.
“This investment reflects the capacity of Mexico’s steel industry to continue growing, develop more sophisticated products, and supply customers across different sectors, while also generating employment and strengthening integration with suppliers,” Vedoya said.
Investment drives regional integration and operational efficiency
The development of the Industrial Center in Pesquería responds to Ternium’s strategy to expand its presence in North America through productive infrastructure that can meet regional demand with local content, in an environment where supply chain integration is increasingly relevant.
As part of the expansion, the project also includes the installation of a new steel mill that will reinforce the complex’s productive autonomy, reduce dependence on external inputs, and improve operational efficiency.
The visit included the participation of Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard, who toured the facilities and met with company employees and clients. During the event, a steel plate manufactured on the new galvanizing line was presented with the “Made in Mexico” distinction, an initiative aimed at strengthening national production and consolidating more competitive supply chains.
Ternium’s expansion in Nuevo León is part of the industrial growth dynamic in northern Mexico, where demand for specialized steel continues to rise, driven by sectors such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing.
