The Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE) emphasized the need to prepare concrete positions in anticipation of a possible renegotiation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in 2026.
During the forum “USMCA and the New Trump Administration: Trilateral Relations and Perspectives,” Susana Duque, General Director of COMCE, stressed that dialogue and collaboration are fundamental to addressing global challenges and consolidating North America’s competitiveness.
According to Sergio E. Contreras, Executive President of COMCE, the region accounts for 0% of the global GDP and generates $1.63 trillion in annual trilateral trade. This underscores the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen value chains and capitalize on nearshoring opportunities.
On this matter, Kenneth Smith, President of the Mexico-U.S. Bilateral Committee within the organization, highlighted the necessity of being prepared for the possibility that the United States could propose a broad reopening of the treaty. However, he ruled out the likelihood of its complete termination.
