The Starr-Camargo Bridge Company is set to launch an expansion project for the private Starr-Camargo International Bridge, aiming to increase commercial traffic lanes from two to 14, specifically for cargo trucks.
This expansion will significantly boost export capacity between the Tamaulipas and Texas border, leveraging the bridge's strategic location between Camargo, Tamaulipas, and Rio Grande City, Texas. The project will be executed in two phases: the first phase will involve adapting the infrastructure to accommodate six lanes, while the second phase will add the remaining eight lanes.
Currently, the Starr-Camargo International Bridge serves as a direct access route between Mexico and the United States, offering competitive advantages such as permits for double-trailer trucks, oversized, and overweight loads. Additionally, the bridge features a joint inspection customs facility, with officers from both countries—the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This setup ensures that all permits and goods undergoing import processes into the United States are reviewed in a single location.
The lane expansion at this private bridge is part of Starr-Camargo Bridge Company's comprehensive strategy to enhance benefits for companies utilizing the bridge through nearshoring. Among the upcoming projects is the construction of cold storage facilities for perishable goods, available for companies in need, located within the bridge premises. This initiative aims to strengthen the company's position as one of the most crucial and direct crossings in cross-border trade processes.
