Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño announced that construction of a natural gas liquefaction plant in Guaymas will begin this August, reinforcing the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan and promising significant economic development for the region. The investment, led by Amigo LNG, amounts to approximately $6.8 billion and will be executed in two stages.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this plant is set for August, marking the start of a project that will not only produce liquefied gas from Texas but also export it to countries such as India, Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. This strategic move positions the Port of Guaymas as a key exit point to the Pacific, significantly expanding Sonora’s commercial reach.
“A company named Amigo LNG, which owns this plant to be constructed in Guaymas, is investing $6.8 billion in two stages: $3.4 billion for the first stage and another $3.4 billion for a new liquefaction module in the second stage,” detailed Governor Durazo Montaño.
The state governor emphasized the importance of such investments, which not only transform Guaymas into a development hub but also position Sonora as a global leader in sustainable energy use.
The Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, with its various initiatives, promotes the decarbonization of the global economy and strengthens commercial exchanges between Mexico and the United States.
