With the new opening of its plant in the municipality of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, in which deep groove ball bearings (DGBB) will be developed and manufactured for North American automobile manufacturers, as well as tapered roller bearings (TRB) for industrial clients, the Swedish company SKF confirmed that several of its suppliers will arrive in the state.

“Yes, suppliers are investing in the region also to be close to us; “We are talking about suppliers that come from different countries, both Asian, European and North American,” reported Kerstin Enochsson, global automotive president of SKF.

Regarding whether they will seek local supplies for their operations in the state, where they have a presence with two plants, Joakim Landholm, senior vice president of operations at SKF  and director of sustainability, confirmed this fact.

“We are always open to new suppliers, as long as they meet our high quality standards and are cost efficient,” he said.

Nuevo León, the best option for SKF

Joakim Landholm commented that the company, before establishing its second base in the northern state, analyzed other countries and states in Mexico to install this plant, which is vital for its operations in Latin America.

“We are constantly evaluating where it is attractive to do manufacturing operations and in this case the conclusion was that Monterrey was the best location.

“Their access to labor, proximity to the United States, availability of land, the industrial cluster that is growing in this area, are just some of the factors we consider,” he said.
