Siemens Plant in Mexico Earns LEED Platinum Certification, the First in the Company Worldwide
March 12, 2026
Siemens’ Mitras manufacturing center in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, obtained LEED Platinum certification, the highest level under the international Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system, becoming the first Siemens factory worldwide to achieve this distinction.
The industrial facility, which spans 18,700 square meters, also became the first industrial building in Mexico to reach the Platinum level in the Building Design and Construction: New Construction category under LEED v4.
Mitras plant advances sustainable manufacturing in Mexico
Opened in 2024 as part of the company’s expansion strategy in northern Mexico, the Mitras plant integrates plastic injection molding and the production of low-voltage electrical components used in circuit protection technologies and electrification systems.
According to the company, the complex incorporates advanced automation systems, digital monitoring, and energy management solutions that optimize manufacturing processes and improve operational efficiency.
Alejandro Preinfalk, President and CEO of Siemens Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and Marco Cosío, Vice President of Smart Infrastructure for the region, said the project reflects Mexico’s role within Siemens’ global manufacturing network and its adoption of technologies focused on industrial digitalization.
For her part, Judith Wiese, Chief People & Sustainability Officer at Siemens, said the certification demonstrates that industrial competitiveness and sustainability can advance together within manufacturing operations.
Energy efficiency and emissions reduction
The plant includes on-site solar generation and energy-efficiency systems that have enabled a 40% reduction in energy consumption compared with reference industrial buildings. It also generates around 800 MWh of renewable energy per year and avoids approximately 2,740 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
Project development was coordinated by Siemens Real Estate, the division responsible for the company’s global real estate portfolio, which has delivered more than 70 projects certified under international environmental standards.
With more than 130 years of presence in Mexico, Siemens said the country remains a strategic center within its global operations, both for its manufacturing capacity and for the development of technology solutions related to electrification, digitalization, and sustainable infrastructure.
