Siemens announced an investment of 300 million pesos for their operations in Mexico between this year 2020 and 2021.

The company announced it during the second edition of Industrial Transformation Mexico (ITM) , the most important virtual event for Industry 4.0 in the country. In the forum, they detailed that of the total financing, 100 million will be allocated to research and development (R&D), with the aim of boosting the competitiveness of the products manufactured in their plants located in Monterrey, Querétaro and Guadalajara.

Alejandro Preinfalk, president and CEO of Siemens Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, stated that this investment was designed to develop the industry of tomorrow as well as possible.

Likewise, he affirmed that Siemens generates more than 9,000 direct jobs and more than 50,000 indirect jobs through its projects, which have had a production increase of more than 30 percent . And derived from this increase in demand, in recent months they created more than 1,500 jobs for factories located in the north of the country.

"We will continue to influence job creation and strengthen investments in research and development to make Mexico an innovative nation," he said.

With this investment, Siemens seeks to continue promoting the production of key industries in Mexico such as automotive and beer , where the company provides 60% of the technology ; in addition to having a presence in 65% of the mining units and 76% of the cement plants in the country; as well as its participation in more than 50% of the electricity that is distributed throughout the nation.

The commitment that this leading technology company has is to promote job creation, bet on Mexican talent and encourage innovation in technology manufactured in the country . Therefore, it has been clear to them that in order to achieve a successful implementation of Industry 4.0 , it is not enough to have the latest technology in industrial plants, but that, in addition, the training of human resources is key .

“The jobs that the industry will require in 10 years are careers that do not exist today, since the digital transformation implies a continuous diversification of profiles that companies need. By using smart office technologies, we can reshape the way we work. New talents and the education sector are a priority for Siemens, which is why we maintain constant support in the development of talent in Mexico in an integral way, ”said Preinfalk.

For the German company, the path to a post-Covid-19 world has to go hand in hand with digitization and smart cities will take on greater relevance to safeguard people's health and safety.

Today, people spend up to 90% of their time in buildings , which account for about 41% of energy consumption globally and generate 21% of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) emissions . The latest forecast from the United Nations (UN) predicts that 70% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050.

Given this reality, energy consumption in cities will increase, causing an increase of up to 4 degrees Celsius in atmospheric temperature and will increase demography.

In this regard, Siemens has an understanding of sustainability and therefore by 2030 it will be a carbon neutral company, so that everything they are producing is done in a renewable and clean way. In Mexico, they have a decarbonization plan based on three pillars: energy efficiency, consumption of renewable energy and the use of decentralized energy -such as photovoltaics- .
