The Roma-Las Américas Industrial and Logistics Park in Roma, Texas, is set to welcome two new investment projects focused on the distribution and storage of refrigerated and dry goods, as confirmed by Alejandro Barrera, the city manager. He also mentioned ongoing negotiations with five other companies in the same sector, though investment amounts and company names remain confidential for now. "In the coming months, we will be welcoming two new companies that have confirmed their investment in this industrial park. Additionally, we are in negotiations with five other companies interested in storage, ranging from dry to refrigerated products, which is expected to generate jobs and boost our city's economic development," Barrera stated.
Currently, the industrial park offers 20 available lots, ranging in size from 1 to 5 acres and from 5 to 10 acres, catering to various company needs. The park spans a total of 334 acres, with 144 acres developed in the first phase. Public investment in the park has exceeded $16 million, with $11 million allocated to basic infrastructure such as electricity, water, drainage, and paving, and the remaining $5 million used for constructing the second customs inspection station at the Port of Roma, Texas, by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Strategic Location and Competitive Advantages
The inauguration of these facilities on June 18 has facilitated the inspection of refrigerated and dry goods through a joint inspection program involving agents from Mexico's National Customs Agency (ANAM). This allows simultaneous inspections by both authorities, reducing transport and delivery times. "This is another competitive advantage we offer to investors, as companies involved in foreign trade won't need to travel for their processes or inspections; everything will be more direct and faster," added Barrera.
The Roma-Las Américas Industrial and Logistics Park is strategically located on FM 650, providing direct access to the commercial logistics corridor connecting the entire Rio Grande Valley. This facilitates transportation to international bridges with exclusive lanes for truck crossings, enhancing connectivity to major highways linking other industrial cities.
Expansion and Future Growth
Alfonso Ramírez, assistant city manager of Roma, highlighted the growing demand and business expansion at the Roma-Las Américas Industrial and Logistics Park, indicating the need to proceed with a second phase of construction. This expansion will increase investment opportunities for companies involved in manufacturing, logistics, storage, distribution, and services. Ramírez emphasized the positive economic impact this will have on both the city and the region. "We are already seeing the need for more gas stations to serve double-trailer trucks. We are always open to showcasing investment opportunities, from the industrial sector to small and medium-sized enterprises."
Ramírez also noted the expectation for Roma, Texas, to set a new commercial record in 2024 with double-digit growth in imports, driven by investments in industrial complexes that facilitate foreign trade.
