Rhenus Automotive, a global company specializing in automotive logistics and production—and a supplier to Volvo—has confirmed a $50 million USD investment for the construction of a new plant in Nuevo León, Mexico.

The announcement was made during an international business tour through Europe by Nuevo León Governor Samuel García, who emphasized the importance of attracting companies like Rhenus to further solidify the state's leadership in the automotive sector.

“We met with Bosch, Schneider Electric, ZF, and Siemens—all very happy with their operations in Nuevo León and expanding their plants. Now we’re headed to Augsburg, Germany, to visit KUKA Robotics and Daye, which is also wrapping up its new plant in Nuevo León this summer. So far, it’s been a very productive third day here in Hannover,” the governor stated.

García also highlighted Nuevo León’s economic growth, which reached 5.8%, according to recent data from INEGI, Mexico’s national statistics institute.

“As of April 1st, this will be a great month. Nuevo León grew by 5.8%, according to the latest INEGI data. For comparison: Texas—the fastest-growing U.S. state—grew by 3.5%. The U.S. national average was 2.4%, the Mexican national average was 1.2%, and Nuevo León grew 5.8%,” he added.

According to a 2024 report on Texas’ economic growth, the Mexican states most economically connected to the U.S. are Mexico City, Chihuahua, and Nuevo León.

Additionally, cross-border trade operations have increased at the Colombia Bridge in Anáhuac, which connects Nuevo León with Laredo, Texas.

The economic ties between Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas with Texas are expected to grow even stronger with the planned passenger rail line from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo, which will include a stop in Monterrey.
