Querétaro expands air connectivity with new routes to Chicago and Chihuahua, boosting regional trade, tourism, and global business access.
Querétaro is strengthening its air network with new national and international routes that enhance its role as a key logistics and business hub in Mexico. Starting December 18, American Airlines will launch a new route between Querétaro (QRO) and Chicago (ORD), offering direct access to one of the United States’ major gateways during the winter season.
On the domestic front, TAR Airlines began operating a new route from Chihuahua to Querétaro on July 7, with three weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. This connection aims to strengthen regional integration between two of Mexico’s main industrial regions, while also supporting tourism and business travel.
International Route Boosts Business Opportunities
The new Chicago connection will link directly to American Airlines’ hub in that city, which offers access to more than 140 destinations. This will provide Querétaro-based companies with easier access to key markets in the U.S. and beyond, particularly in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, technology, and aerospace.
“With these new routes our local operation will grow by more than 8%, reflecting our 80+ year commitment to Mexico,” said José María Giraldo, Managing Director of Operations for American Airlines in Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and Central America.
Chihuahua–Querétaro Route: A North-Central Economic Corridor
The new domestic route from Chihuahua represents a strategic opportunity for both states, which are among Mexico’s top exporters. According to TAR Airlines, the new service is expected to generate an estimated economic impact of 20 million pesos by stimulating tourism, trade, and related services.
Additionally, the route meets growing demand for business travel, academic exchanges, and specialized events, as both Chihuahua and Querétaro share strong industrial profiles.
Upward Trend for Querétaro’s Air Connectivity
These new routes further consolidate Querétaro as one of the most attractive destinations for regional air transport. In recent years, the state has seen consistent growth in air traffic, driven by its economic dynamism, solid infrastructure, and strategic location. Direct connections to northern industrial hubs and a global city like Chicago create new opportunities for economic growth and foreign investment attraction.
