Precision Moderna is a Mexican company dedicated to the manufacture of high-precision machined parts. Founded by Swiss Jacques Walter Gobat in 1967, the company has been growing rapidly under the leadership of his son and current CEO, Walter Gobat Gaudry .
PM produces more than 400,000 machined parts per day, 40% of the production goes to the automotive sector in parts such as shafts, bushings, inserts, special nuts, nozzles, etc. Likewise, it serves the electrical appliance, electrical-electronic, medical, and aeronautical industries, among others.
The machines with which the plant located in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, operates are of high technology, quality and constant repeatability. The vast majority are new machines, because due to the growth and extensions of the warehouse, constant investments are required to continue production.
“With the new machines we reduce errors, we get more finished parts and we increase production. Mainly, we manufacture precision machined parts with a diameter below two millimeters up to 65 millimeters in different types of materials such as steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum, plastic and others”, said engineer Gobat.
Likewise, he commented that all his projects are focused on the manufacture of parts and new parts. They have been in constant investment and purchase of machinery. The last was a 32-millimeter Swiss-type numerical control lathe, as the plant continues to expand. Also, to continue their development, they work with business organizations such as Canacintra, Coparmex and some others from the State of Mexico that support companies.
“We have been in the Naucalpan area for many years and in general we are doing very well, we are one of the most important companies in the area and we continue to have the preference of clients and new prospects. In reality, we do not stop having work any day, "added the manager.
SUPPLY AND AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY
The raw material itself is bought mainly in Mexico; however, on the subject of steel, the raw material used by its suppliers is imported from Germany and England to manufacture the bars. As for brass, it is 100% national and the tools and suppression equipment are also imported.
"The issue of raw materials does have an interesting area of opportunity, because every day delivery times have increased a lot, it is not an easy issue, but we do see opportunities in Mexico to supply imports," added Walter Gobat .
PM AND THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
At the beginning, in 2020, while they were figuring out how to handle the situation and the issue of essential and non-essential industries, they had two months of hard learning and then things worked out well. “The issue of all suppliers and this globalized world where many have stopped, maritime problems, container problems and others, have made customers look for closer alternatives and that has also benefited us a lot to increase the quantity of work. We know that some industries have lowered their consumption due to electronic issues, but on the other hand it has been filled with more work”, he indicated.
Derived from the pandemic, Modern Precision manufactured around 65% for the automotive industry and now that percentage has dropped significantly, but they have the preference of other clients belonging to other industries that have increased substantially.
“The issue of the pandemic did not stop our investments, in 2021 we bought several production equipment that is sliding head and fixed head CNC lathes, measuring equipment, scanners, transport equipment and some other things. We have not stopped exporting to the United States and European countries. If the alternatives are properly opened, we will be exporting to more continents," Gobat said.
Likewise, he expressed that for this year they hope that the issues of the pandemic will subside and there will be the opportunity to have a better outlook and vision for the future, and to be able to grow around 15% in an orderly manner.
COLLABORATORS
Regarding the personnel that works at Modern Precision, Gobat highlighted that they try to train them very well in what needs to be done, in what the clients require, and explain to them what the company's mission and vision are. “What we always work on is making the greatest effort to provide excellent quality at a good price with correct delivery times. We are governed by the principles of working hard, correctly, responsibly and always complying with the quality of our products”.
Finally, Walter Gobat elaborated on the work plan for this 2022, which is to continue offering very high quality products, with competitive prices, the best after-sales service and to continue penetrating more customers. And in addition to having ISO 9001:2015 certification, they are in the process, by the end of the year, of obtaining IATF 16949 automotive certification.
