Potential Partnership: German Manufacturer Eyes Mexican Presence for Tesla Contracts

In Monterrey, Fritz Eisele Thurau, the honorary consul of the Federal Republic of Germany and representative director of the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Camexa), revealed that a company is actively considering becoming part of Tesla's supply chain. While the company is still deliberating on its location within Mexico, Thurau emphasized the confidence German businesses have in the country's potential for expansion.

Thurau's remarks underscored the broader trend of increased German interest in Mexico. Notably, more companies are exploring opportunities to establish operations in Mexico for the first time, reflecting the country's growing allure as a destination for foreign investment.

The German delegation's recent visit to Nuevo León further illustrates this trend. Specializing in Industrial Safety, the delegation engaged in discussions on nearshoring strategies and shared best practices in safety measures, from personal protective equipment to cutting-edge technology and digitization.

The significance of German investment in Mexico cannot be overstated. With over 2,100 companies employing 300,000 people, German capital plays a vital role in the country's economy. Leading employers include ZF, Continental, Bosch, Volkswagen, and Leoni, spanning industries such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics, machinery, and logistics.

Moreover, Thurau emphasized the collaborative efforts between German and Mexican economic development associations. This partnership aims to present the region as a unified entity, with shared interests and strengths that bolster both countries' economic prospects.
