Automotive Industry Fuels Port Activity
The automotive industry continued its upward trend, with 339,091 vehicles handled between January and June 2025—an increase of 3% over the same period last year. Imports represented 72% of the total, while exports made up the remaining 28%. Major clients included General Motors, Toyota, Mazda, BYD, and KIA, joined by three new entrants: Hongqi, Sunwin (focused on buses), and Xiaomi, which specializes in electric vehicles. Xiaomi alone brought in over 1,900 units during the reporting period.
The strong results from the first half of 2025 reaffirm the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas as a key strategic gateway for international trade in Mexico, supported by its growing cargo volume, diversified operations, and robust logistical connectivity.
