After the modernization of the Port of Guaymas, the automaker Ford will begin a pilot plan this June to ship its vehicles through this port in Hermosillo, Sonora.
This was announced by the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, who also noted that this initiative will eliminate the need for the company to transport its production by land to Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán.
Durazo Montaño emphasized that the global automaker's interest in using the Port of Guaymas as a shipping route highlights the economic consolidation being achieved in the region due to the port's modernization.
He explained that representatives from the European Commission and the Port of Antwerp will visit to observe the modernization process of the Port of Guaymas and to sign an agreement for its administration.
"We are going to send the first ship with Ford cars manufactured in Hermosillo, which currently travel by land to Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. This demonstrates the importance of the Port of Guaymas. Imagine the cost savings for Ford, transporting a car from Hermosillo to Lázaro Cárdenas by land versus an hour by the Port of Guaymas," he stated in a press release.
The state governor mentioned that of the 13 construction fronts that make up the Modernization of the Port of Guaymas, seven are already completed. Additionally, three sections of the Guaymas-Chihuahua highway were improved last year.
