As part of its commitment to environmental conservation in Guanajuato, Pirelli Mexico has expanded its protected area to over 150 hectares, with an investment of 4.1 million pesos.
The company recently signed an agreement to protect an additional 100 hectares within the Cuenca de la Esperanza Natural Protected Area (NPA), supplementing the more than 50 hectares it currently safeguards.
With this expansion, Pirelli will implement additional initiatives such as reforestation with native species, the construction of contour trenches for water retention, the installation of filtration dams, and the maintenance of perimeter fencing to protect local biodiversity.
Since 2013, the company has been actively involved in the conservation of this region, initially adopting 20 hectares and progressively increasing its participation.
By 2024, Pirelli had invested over 1.6 million pesos in restoring more than 50 hectares through reforestation and ecosystem maintenance activities.
The Cuenca de la Esperanza is a vital ecosystem for Guanajuato, home to significant biodiversity, including threatened species such as the peregrine falcon and the great horned owl. Additionally, it encompasses the La Esperanza Dam, which supplies approximately 8% of Guanajuato City's annual water consumption.
The event was attended by Pirelli Mexico CEO and General Director Enrico Verdino; Jorge Martín Martínez, Pirelli’s North America Manager of Safety, Health, Environment, and Sustainability; and Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo.
